Plane Spotting Sharm El Sheikh

Hilton Sharks Bay

Is probably one of the best hotels to spot from in Sharm. The hotel is split into two sections, old and new section. The old section of the hotel is on the sea front and has a small sandy beach and has
three swimming pools, and the new section of the hotel has 4 swimming pools and is located nearest the airport runway.
The new side of the hotel is the side you need to ask for when you make the booking.

When you make the booking ask for a room in in block 4, All rooms in this section starting with 41.., (4 being the block, and 1 being 1st floor), all have a front balcony outside your room door facing the airport, and
all have a balcony inside your room over looking the pool. Note Rooms starting 40.. are on the ground floor and you will see nothing apart from plants !!!, meaning a walk up the stairs to the 1st floor to see
the airport

Location: *** Located on the southern perimeter of the airport
Spotting: *** Movements can be seen from the room. Most can be read off, a SBS is useful in darknes or when heat haze is severe.
Photos: ** Distant phots can be had. A 400 lens is recommended, however cropping may be required and heat haze causes problem at certain times of the day.

The Sierra Sharm
Located in Sharks Bay in the vicinity of the Concorde Hotel shown below
Location: ** Opposite the holding point for Runway 04R
Spotting: *** An airport facing room ensures that you will identify nearly all of the traffic when it is moving.
Photos: ** From room 2502 was able to photo everything taxying out for take off when using northerly runway 04R as wind is predominately from the north. The hotel is very good, all inclusive. You are not able to take landing shots as hotel is opposite holding point for 04R. You would get good shots as aircraft are turning off the runway if using 22L. I would like to stress you need a good digital camera for taxying shots as the holding points has palm trees in the way. It is much better to photograph when taxying from terminal area opposite. SBS was used in the hotel, the hotel was ok with it.
Value: * Room only prices start at around £118 per night. Credit: James Rose (please mention you booked as a result of this write up asI said I would promote hotel in England to hotel manager thank you)

    Sonesta Beach, La Royale

This is the ‘posher’ part of the sonesta beach complex. If you take someone with you that enjoys a bit of luxury, this is not to be missed, superb rooms with balcony, and if requested a room with a ‘view’ the hotel are very helpful, we had 5121 which overlooked the pool and all arriving/ departing came just to the right. I did do some searching and found 5259 was probably the best, one floor higher and no roof to the balcony so the numerous OTT’s can be viewed easily. There is a busy airlane over and with sbs all can be seen.
We had one week there in Feb, the temp was good, high 70-90 over the week and at 260 sterling for 7 nights, all inclusive, was the bargain of the year. As we departed the receptionist even asked to see my log!

As is probably known, Sharm isnt the busiest and in Feb the majoriity of flights tended to be russian/ukraine, which was very nice

Re Sonesta Beach…. Sharm el Sheikh

I think the airport is very attractive, also a new terminal and runway is coming up there. Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport has reached its full capacity since 2010. The airport currently has two terminals, including terminal one, which serves international flights, and the older terminal two, which serves domestic flights.
