Plane Spotting Dublin

Maldron Hotel  (ex Clarion Hotel)
500m from the terminal buildings and 10 miles from the city centre. A free shuttle bus is provided by the hotel.
Location: *** The hotel is still in a good location as the best spotting point at Dublin airport is about a twenty minute walk from the hotel. You have to walk out of the airport and take an immediate right. Follow this road until you reach a T-Junction at the entrance to a cemetary. You will then see a very long road opposite the cemetary gates going around the perimiter of the airport. Follow this until you reach the viewing point although aircraft can easily be viewed and photographed from most points along this road which runs parallel to the main runway 28/10
Spotting: ***  Aircraft can be seen landing from certain rooms and should be able to be read off.
Photos: **
Aircraft can be seen landing but are probably too far away for a decent photograph but see location report above
Value: *** Twin rooms for a weekend stay are typically £55 per night. Midweek stays seem to be slightly cheaper.

Carlton Hotel

This hotel is the number one choice for viewing at Dublin Airport. The hotel is on three floor and one side of the hotel overlooks the airport. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the airport every 30 minutes. Wi fi is free to hotel guests.

Most of the terminal and parts of the runway can be seen from even the ground floor rooms although the 3rd floor is obviously a better option. Flight tracking is needed to tie up some aircraft especially in darkness.

When on Runway 10 arriving aircraft are visible when vacating the runway, or when climbing out on departure. When on Runway 28 the arrivals fly directly in front of the room.

Rooms 260 and 360 are reported to have the best views from this hotel. Ask for a room at the front of the hotel or facing the airport. It is reported that a few rooms have balconies which face the airport. If this is correct there should be great photo opportunities when landing on 28.
