staying at the holiday inn cairns harbour side at the moment in room 101 ocean view room, you need an ocean view room to see arrivals and departures, arrivals are distant but departures fly right over you, all aircraft bank to the left straight after take off due to mountainous terrain ahead so you could get some nice photos as they bank, you will need SBS or FR24 to tie every thing up but be aware this is not a busy airport, its quality here not quantity, as for the hotel, the rooms are nice and clean with a balcony, free internet n the room., restaurant downstairs but a bit pricey, there is lots of food outlets and a supermarket about a 10 minute walk away, burger bars, kebab houses, Chinese take away and fish and chip shop and a few pubs if you fancied a few cold ones because its warm here in cairns and a lot more humid and don’t forget your aeroguard. there is also a nice pool where you coud also see the aircraft depart.
