Plane Spotting Istanbul Sabia Gokcen SAW

Hotel Divan Istanbul Asia

Location: * Located around 2 miles South West of Istanbul SAW Airport
Spotting: **
Looking for an easy way to view traffic at Sabiha Gokcen, I put in a bit of time on Google Earth and came up with Hotel Divan Istanbul Asia.
It’s a tall, comfortable, modern hotel. I asked for a high floor facing north east (the back) and was given a room on the 17th floor (1706 I think).
The view was of most of the airport with all runway movements visible at a distance. SBS was put to good use, although for the time I was there, arrivals were from the South West and could be read from a mile away, passing at 1000ft.

Further to the view from the room, the top floor (1 above) had a restaurant and bar, both with open air terraces. The bar view faces the sea for arrivals from the SW and the restaurant terrace has a view of the sea all the way round to finals and Rwy 06.

There was also a remote view of the western biz ramps and the maintenance storage ramps.

Well worth a stop for some easy logging over a few beers.
Photos: * Probably too distant
Value: ** Starting from around £67 for a room upwards

Aircraft pass around a mile from the hotel at around 1000 feet.

First hotel report from this rapidly expanding airport, the home of Pegasus

Staying at the Divan Istanbul Asia – report above very accurate, but here are a few more details. You want a room as high as possible ending with 04, 05 or 06. These rooms all have 1 king bed, however, housekeeping will “separate” the beds into two separate beds if you ask. Those are the only 3 rooms on each floor with a direct view of the airport. The rooftop bar/restaurant is open from 5pm until 2am and is not accessible otherwise. The pool deck (one floor up from the lobby) does provide views of inbound aircraft (when landing from the sea). Food and beer is expensive in the hotel but there are supermarkets close to the hotel to stock up. We had room 1505. Hotel management likes to keep the room temperature very warm (save money on A/C?) so you may have to phone and complain to get them to adjust for you.
