Plane Spotting Jakarta

Jakarta Airport Hotel   (NOTE As of December 2013 the hotel is closed for refurbishment, it is not known when the hotel will reopen at this time)

Location: *** Perfect location on top of terminal 2 (Garuda terminal). Great views from the room of this side of the airfield. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the terminal shuttle bus which transports you to the various terminals and their associated viewing decks.
Spotting: ** All rooms have views over the Garuda terminal and runway at this side of the airfield.Rooms 1-7 have the best overall views. Room 1 is the pick of the rooms as you can monitor departures off both runways from here. If you are allocated another room, it is not a problem, as you simply open your room door and view the other runway through the opposite windows (obviously SBS is a help here as it picks up aircraft as they line up on the departure runway). A visit to the viewing terraces of all terminals are recommended to pick up the many stored airliners, as well as domestic traffic which doesn’t show on SBS.
Photos: ** Pretty good quality photos can be taken from the room as shown below
Value: ** From around £60 per room per night

Hotel FM7

A relatively newly reported hotel has been used as an alternate to the above Airport Hotel whilst it is closed for renovation is quickly becoming a favorite with enthusiasts as the management have seen the potential of making the hotel “spotter friendly”. A new rooftop bar will be opening shortly with brilliant views over the approaches and airfield however the management have been granting roof access already to spotters and photographers.

Once the rooftop bar area is fully operational, this hotel will be in the top 10 world spotting hotels as the views are so good. The management understand our hobby and make everything possible to accommodate us.

The Hotel is rated as 4 star and is of good quality.  The hotel has large rooms and the food is reported to be of good quality. Although not in the best of areas, once in the hotel it is of good quality having only been built recently. There is a shuttle bus to the airport which makes it easy to access the viewing terraces if required during the day.

Location: ** Just off the perimeter fence on short finals to Runway 25R
Spotting: ***

If you manage to get an approach facing room, the aircraft pass very close by on final approach. The hotel is only on two floors with many tress planted around which can obscure views from certain rooms. Ideally, you require a room to the front of the hotel which looks out towards the approach to 25R, rooms 267-281 or 201-207 (odd numbers) should give good views of 25R. It must be noted that there are no views of runway 25L from these rooms.

Room 219, Executive Suite is on the corner and has views over both runways.

Other rooms will probably have views of the approach to one of the two runways, however flight tracking equipment would almost certainly be required to identify traffic.

The hotel should shortly open a rooftop bar area, from here the approach to both runways can be seen as well as aircraft lining up on Runway 25R. All movements on the airport can be seen from the rooftop bar area however flight trackers are required to tie up the distant movements.

The rooftop area has patchy wifi coverage allowing monitoring on Flight Radar 24. Reception is best at the end of the pool area near to the lift. Power points are available on the roof for laptops.

Photos: *** A standard lens will capture the larger types on short final, otherwise a 200 zoom will be sufficient for most aircraft types approaching on 25R. Superb opportunities are available from the rooftop bar area.
Value: *** Excellent value from £25 a night

Bad news! The Jakarta Airport Hotel is closed until further notice for refurbishment.

not the only hotel here. Try the Sheraton Bandara. Its East of the field and a South facing room gives very nice views of arrivals on the southern runways. (Domestic side).

The rooftop bar/restaurant is not yet open, but is expected to be within the next month or two (May 2015). The Manager understands the hobby and allowed us to use the roof whilst work was in progress after a short H+S discussion. Nothing will be missed from the rooftop area and photography is good.

Stayed at FM7 for 2 nights. By far the best hotel near the airport, and value for money too. Rooftop opening soon, where you can view both domestic and international flights. There are 2 restaurants which are both served excellent foods. Manager was very helpful, I asked nicely and was allowed to the rooftop. Excellent spot for photography, 50mm-200mm lens is enough to get great shots.

Recently stayed at the FM7 with a group of friends and my dad. It is a nice hotel but to describe it as being within the top 10 aircraft spotting hotels in the world is a gross exaggeration. We listed over 40 hotels that had better views. You need to use FR24 or SBS to identify a very high proportion of the aircraft. It is OK but a Sheraton Deira it is not. Thanks Michael

By far the best airport hotel in the area, especially for the price. They opened rooftop(Montezuma) recently and it has the best view to both International and Domestic flights from the same spot. Book your room in superior or deluxe to get the best view. Stayed there 2 nights and enjoyed the foods and the facilities. They offer free pick up and shuttle too to the airport, so make use of that.

It looks as though the Airport Hotel On top of Terminal 2 with the excellent views is permanently closed.

I stayed at FM7 Resort Hotel previously and they had an amazing rooftop with view to both International and Domestic path. Nice place to relax too. Foods were excellent. Much cheaper than existing airport hotel and Sheraton, and better :)

The hotel itself is excellent, and very good value. The staff are excellent, restaurants are excellent No red wine.

However, it is not high enough..and there is way too much bushery. One can (really) only see the approach to one runway, BUT you can get great shots (from rooftop bar, especially early morning),,,but if they are going the other direction,,,it is worthless. FR24 is essential…

no, is not in the top ten, not even top 40, but it is a lot of fun, great value, great food, and a great experience.

Loved this hotel!!! the deluxe room is spacious and you can get a close-up view of the landing plane. I stayed at room 203 and it was perfect. They have an excellent rooftop bar which you can view both International and Domestic flights. Book through their website to get the best deals.

staying at the Jakarta airport hotel at the moment in room 23, all rooms face one runway, they use both runways for departures and arrivals, to get aircraft on the other runway, all you have to do is go out of your room on to the corridor and theres a big glass window you can view them from, you will need SBS or FR24 to tie everything up, internet is free. rooms are nice and clean and spacious with plenty of power points, the hotel restaurant is closed at the moment for renovation but this hotel is right on terminal 2E, just go down the escalator from the hotel reception and your in the departure area { not air side} where there are plenty of food and coffee outlets including KFC. if you are planning to stay here I would suggest asking for a room no lower than room 18 as the the hotel is like a half moon shape and you might not see them as some cut short off the runway and turn the other way. a good hotel for viewing and would stay here again.

Stayed at FM7 Resort Hotel for 3 days, the place had full unblocked view of all the arrivals. You can asked for access to their rooftop and the place is amazing. Staffs were all helpful and they already familiar with plane spotters!!! I booked through http://www.fm7hotel.com

Very nice hotel at cheap price. amazing view of International flight paths on one side and Domestic on the other. You can request rooms which face the airplane and more importantly request at their rooftop Montezuma for 360 degree view. VERY RECOMMENDED

Loved it!!! Always my choice in Jakarta. Great list of plane in this area.

Hotel are now openingly advertising the rooftop bar and it was open at 0700 in the morning for a spotting group. Just one word of warning – the rooftop view is dependant on the runway in use. If the wind is in the prevailing direction aircraft are landing at the other end and you won’t see them. On take off they are turning normally before the Hotel. In addition there are two runways in use so the traffic is split.
When I visited aircraft were landing past the hotel until 1100 on two days then the wind switched and they came in at the other end- according to a group of guys this is the norm.
There is also little shade on the roof
    Hope it helps
