Plane Spotting Jakarta

Jakarta Airport Hotel  (Now open after refurbishment)  Latest Update January 2020
Advantages : You can see all movements (although you need your door open to monitor the other runway through the corridor windows). Close to the action.   Photography is possible. Not reliant on runway direction.
Location: *** Perfect location on top of terminal 2 (Garuda terminal). Great views from the room of this side of the airfield. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the terminal shuttle bus which transports you to the various terminals and their associated viewing decks.
Spotting: **

Report 1

All rooms have views over the Garuda terminal and runway at this side of the airfield.Rooms 1-7 have the best overall views. Room 1 is the pick of the rooms as you can monitor departures off both runways from here. If you are allocated another room, it is not a problem, as you simply open your room door and view the other runway through the opposite windows (obviously SBS is a help here as it picks up aircraft as they line up on the departure runway). A visit to the viewing terraces of all terminals are recommended to pick up the many stored airliners, as well as domestic traffic which doesn’t show on SBS.

Report 2

staying at the Jakarta airport hotel at the moment in room 23, all rooms face one runway, they use both runways for departures and arrivals, to get aircraft on the other runway, all you have to do is go out of your room on to the corridor and theres a big glass window you can view them from, you will need SBS or FR24 to tie everything up, internet is free. rooms are nice and clean and spacious with plenty of power points, the hotel restaurant is closed at the moment for renovation but this hotel is right on terminal 2E, just go down the escalator from the hotel reception and your in the departure area { not air side} where there are plenty of food and coffee outlets including KFC. if you are planning to stay here I would suggest asking for a room no lower than room 18 as the the hotel is like a half moon shape and you might not see them as some cut short off the runway and turn the other way. a good hotel for viewing and would stay here again.

Photos: ** Pretty good quality photos can be taken from the room as shown below
Value: ** From around £60 per room per night

Hotel FM7                                                 Latest Update February 2020

Advantages : Great landing shots on 25R are possible. Much cheaper than the airport hotel. The hotel has more of a relaxing vacation feel, great bar and good food.

A relatively newly reported hotel has been used as an alternate to the above Airport Hotel  is quickly becoming a favorite with enthusiasts as the management have seen the potential of making the hotel “spotter friendly”. A new rooftop bar gives views over the approaches and airfield however the management have been granting roof access already to spotters and photographers. Whilst photography is great for landing aircraft when on 25 operations you do miss departures in this configuration. The lift shaft does offer line up views off 25R however none of the 25L departures are in sight.

From the roof top arrivals on 25R can easily be read off in day time. Flight tracking is needed for 25L arrivals and night time movements.

The Hotel is rated as 4 star and is of good quality.  The hotel has large rooms and the food is reported to be of good quality. Although not in the best of areas, once in the hotel it is of good quality having only been built recently. There is a shuttle bus to the airport which makes it easy to access the viewing terraces if required during the day.

The hotel has free wifi, however the signal stops after a certain amount of time which requires you to log on again.

Location: ** Just off the perimeter fence on short finals to Runway 25R
Spotting: ***

Overview: You ideally require a Deluxe room to have the views 201-207 odd numbers should have views. The hotel is only 2 floors high and there are high trees outside of some rooms so check the views prior to accepting the room! When 25 is in use arrivals fly past the room at around 500 feet.

Room 670 is also reported to be a great room. Not only does it have the great view of Runway 25L arrivals, you can also see 25R arrivals by opening your door and looking through the large glass windows opposite your room. This room is also ideally located by the staircase which leads up to the rooftop bar viewing area.

The rooftop bar open 1700-0100 however the reception desk will unlock the door for you at any time before opening to allow you to spot. There is no food or drink available up there when the bar is closed however there are toilets freely available. From the rooftop you also have distant views of runway 25L, a good telescope will be able to read movements off but this runway is too distant for photographs.

Report 1

If you manage to get an approach facing room, the aircraft pass very close by on final approach. The hotel is only on two floors with many tress planted around which can obscure views from certain rooms. Ideally, you require a room to the front of the hotel which looks out towards the approach to 25R, rooms 267-281 or 201-207 (odd numbers) should give good views of 25R. It must be noted that there are no views of runway 25L from these rooms.

Report 2

Hotel are now openingly advertising the rooftop bar and it was open at 0700 in the morning for a spotting group. Just one word of warning – the rooftop view is dependant on the runway in use. If the wind is in the prevailing direction aircraft are landing at the other end and you won’t see them. On take off they are turning normally before the Hotel. In addition there are two runways in use so the traffic is split.
When I visited aircraft were landing past the hotel until 1100 on two days then the wind switched and they came in at the other end- according to a group of guys this is the norm.
There is also little shade on the roof

Report 3

Stayed at FM7 Resort Hotel for 3 days, the place had full unblocked view of all the arrivals. You can asked for access to their rooftop and the place is amazing. Staffs were all helpful and they already familiar with plane spotters!!!

Report 4

The hotel itself is excellent, and very good value. The staff are excellent, restaurants are excellent No red wine.

However, it is not high enough..and there is way too much bushery. One can (really) only see the approach to one runway, but if they are going the other direction,it is worthless. FR24 is essential.

Photos: *** Great shots (from rooftop bar, especially early morning)
Value: *** Excellent value from £25 a night
