Plane Spotting Santiago

Diego De Almagro Hotel                                     Last Update 2018
Location: ** Is located on around a 2 mile final to runway 35R
Spotting: *** Ask for any even numbered room on the 5th and 6th floor and you will be able to monitor movements on both parallel runways. The high level rooms enable you to look down on runway 17L. Departures off runway 17L fly overhead the hotel, departures off 17R are visible once airborne. Arrivals on both runways can be seen as can taxing aircraft on the eastern side of the airport.
Photos: ** No reports however if traffic was landing over the hotel shots should be possible from the hotel grounds
Value: * Expect to pay around £100 a room per night

Holiday Inn Santiago Airport            Updated February 2020
Update: Building work has commenced in front of the hotel which may block airport views. We await further updates.
Location: *** Great location, the hotel is linked to the terminal by a walkway
Spotting: ** High level rooms facing away from the terminal building offer limited views of the approaches/climb out and taxiways. SBS would probably be required to help identification. Room 623 has confirmed views of a number of stands and one of the runways (see video clip below)
Photos: *  It is difficult to take decent pictures from anything but wide-bodies, as you are exactly in between the 2 parallel runways, rather distant, shooting above a lot of concrete (heat distortion), and the rooms have heavily tinted windows. A photo spot is in walking distance from the hotel at abeam RW27R, this spot is suitable for departure shots in the morning with a minimum 130mm lens required.
Value: * Expect to pay around £110 a room per night
