Plane Spotting Seoul Incheon

HOTEL ORA INCHEON

Is a new hotel which has the potential to become a firm favorite with enthusiasts. The hotel sits on the perimeter of the airport and has views which have been described as similar to the famous Grand Come Inn in Bangkok. Note do not book a mountain facing room, ask for an airport view.

The hotel has a Western menu for both breakfast and dinner. The place is remote, with no other restaurants nearby but the views certainly make up for it.

Location: ** On the perimeter of the airport. A bonus is that this hotel is only a reported 10 minute walk from the famous Sky Deck photography point.
Spotting: ***

Rooms in the range of *07 to *12 on the 7th flooor or above should offer the excellent views described below.

Just returned from a recent visit to Seoul and stayed at the Hotel Ora at Seoul Incheon Airport – Requested a High Floor Room facing the airport and the was not disappointed – Courtesy bus collected from the airport before 9am and allowed an instant check-in at no extra charge. I was allocated Room 808 and the view is very similar to that of the Grand Come Inn at Bangkok International ( If anybody has stayed at that property ) – View is of the entire airport and nothing can be missed – The Wi-Fi was excellent and when the weather is clear all departures from Seoul Gimpo can be seen from the room as they initially turn and continue towards Incheon before turning away. Staff were very friendly and helpful and a restaurant is available on the ground floor.

Room 807 also has great views and is confirmed as the best room for viewing in this hotel. In front of you is runway 16-34 with the parallel runways 34R and 34L in the distance. 34/16 aircraft can be read off, the other parallels need flight tracking for tie ups. Room 607,407 will have similar views but are lower.

SBS reception isnt too good from this location, you literally get what is on the taxiway and runway in front of you. FR24 coverage is however usually excellent in the Seoul area.

On clear days Gimpo departures can be seen climbing out from the room, a lot of these flights head towards Incheon before turning away at around 10000 feet so hope for clear skies!

Photos: ** No actual reports but with a good zoom photos should be ok. The famous Skydeck is only a short walk away.
Value: ** Prices for a twin room vary depending on when you stay. A typical price for a twin room is between £80-90 which is a great price for the view that you get from here.

Above : Great views of the airport can be had from The Hotel Ora which is bound to become the number 1 hotel for viewing at Seoul.

Best Western Premier Airport Hotel Incheon

is located within the airport perimeter, but 1/2 mile away from the terminal building. On arrival at the hotel ask for a room on a high floor facing the airport. If you get one of these rooms you will have views of runway 33 threshold, although you will need a telescope to read the movements off due to the distance from the hotel. The rooms come equipped with large TV screens with various channels. One of the channels lists all the arrival and departure information for the airport,  with the added bonus that cargo and general aviation flights are also included (registrations are not given).

For those people who do not fancy tasting the local cuisine there is a restaurant in the hotel serving western food! The restaurant can get extremely busy at breakfast time, its best to get down there as soon as it opens to avoid the queues.

Location: *** Close to the airport. The hotel shuttle can operate very sporadically, at times only once a hour. It is often easier to use the monorail from the airport to the long stay car park. This is a free service, jump off at the second stop and you will see the hotel across the road.
Spotting: **

A room on a high numbered floor is required for reasonable views of the action. Room 1019 has confirmed views of Runways 33L and Runways 33R and a landing view of Runway 34 when traffic is on short finals. Odd numbered rooms in the range *01-*19 give similar views from floor 8 and above.

Traffic lining up on 33L and 33R can be seen but is often difficult to read off. Traffic departing off Runway 34 cannot be seen unless taking a left turn out of 1000 feet so clear sky’s are needed.

If on 15/16 operations all departures should be seen over the hotel so long as the cloud is not very low. Most arrivals on 15L and 15R will be seen as they roll out and vacate the runway. Traffic landing Runway 16 will not be seen.

Flight tracking programs are needed for the majority of aircraft although some aircraft on 33L/R can be read off from the room. SBS reception is not great from this hotel due to the shape of adjoining buildings however Flight Radar 24 coverage is usually excellent.

Photos: * No reports available, although it seems that the action could be too far away for good photos.
Value: ** Prices for a twin room vary depending on when you stay. A typical price for a twin room is between £70 to £80.

Grand Hyatt Incheon Hotel
is found almost next door to the above best Western Hotel, and is connected with the airport by a complimentary shuttle bus that operates every 15 minutes. Again you need a room on a high floor for the best results. Reports suggest that if you ask for an odd numbered room in the range 909 to 921 you will get the best results. In the description provided by the hotel it says that you can visit the “Regency Club bar to get great views of departing Jumbo’s”.
Location: *** Convenient for the airport and connected by a free shuttle bus.
Spotting: ** Ask for one of the room numbers mentioned above to avoid disappointment. Flight Tracking software may be required to tie up movements as the angles involved in reading off traffic can be difficult at times.
Photos: * No reports available
Value: *  This hotel is quite expensive. Twin rooms are in the range of £100 to £110 depending on when you stay.
